nextmedia acquires Yen: Australia's leading magazine for independent women
14 May 2009
Yen, Australia’s leading magazine for independent women has been acquired by nextmedia, expanding the specialist publisher’s portfolio of iconic brands that includes Inside Sport, Tracks, Golf Australia, Australian Muscle Car, PC Powerplay, GMagazine, TV Soap, Mania and The Wiggles Magazine.
Launched in 2002 by Paper Tiger Media Group, Yen is an inspirational voice providing readers with the latest in fashion, music, the arts and style, as well as commentary and opinion on emerging social and political issues. Yen is published bi-monthly and has an integrated website www.yenmag.net attracting over 35,000 unique visitors and more than 300,000 page views every month.
“We’re excited to bring Yen to the nextmedia portfolio, where it will fit well with our philosophy of engaging people with special interests and their communities. It also gives us the opportunity to expand our women’s magazine and online offerings,” said David Gardiner, Chief Executive Officer of nextmedia.
“With many younger women rejecting the obsession with celebrities and body image, we see Yen as a great opportunity to support, encourage and inspire strong and independent women to create and achieve in all aspects of their lives. There are many advertisers seeking to reach this audience,” he added.
Paper Tiger Media Group founders Robert and Melissa Bergin, congratulated nextmedia on the acquisition. “Yen created a new magazine category in Australia based on a passion to provide something for women who truly ‘yen’ for more than the usual fluff they are bombarded with on newsstands. We are very proud of what we have achieved together with our terrific contributor base and are pleased that Yen will be joining nextmedia, a company that understands how to inform and engage readers in their passions.”
Yen magazine will be published bi-monthly while Yen online will carry news, features, blogs and video. Joining nextmedia will be Editor, Louise Stewart, Art Director Sarah Walters and National Advertising Manager Ana Neves.
