nextmedia today announced the acquisition of Art Almanac, the essential guide to Australian
galleries. The acquisition of Art Almanac and related website and newsletter service is an
ideal complement to nextmedia’s Artist Profile magazine.
Art Almanac, first published over 35 years ago as a university publication has grown into one
of Australia’s most respected, reliable and widely read art publications. Produced monthly, the
magazine has the most comprehensive, accurate and up to date information on galleries,
exhibitions, artists, prizes and art services.
“We’re excited to bring Art Almanac into the nextmedia portfolio, giving us the opportunity to
offer a full range service to galleries, artists and art lovers. Art Almanac combined with Artist
Profile magazine, which showcases both established and emerging artists, will provide a single
promotional solution for galleries and artists,” said David Gardiner, Chief Executive Officer of
nextmedia.
“We have plans to invest in the digital offering for Art Almanac, relaunch the website and develop a mobile phone and iPad app to help drive visitors to the galleries.” he added.
Art Almanac Editor Helen McCulloch said, “Art Almanac is a terrific publication and holds a
special place in the McCulloch family. My mother Janice McCulloch, an avid art collector,
developed one of Australia’s premier art publications over a 25 year period and we are very
proud of her achievements and contribution to visual arts. I am pleased that Art Almanac has
found a good home at nextmedia, a company that is committed to high publishing standards
and to develop Art Almanac’s presence.”
Art Almanac will continue to be published monthly and will relaunch the website and offer an iPhone app early next year. Owen Craven has been appointed Editor and will be joined by the experienced Art Almanac team, Laraine Deer, Penny McCulloch, Kirsty Mulholland, Paul Saint, Melissa Pesa and Anna Madeleine, ensuring a smooth transition.
nextmedia is excited to bring to the art market a package, combining the artist’s voice behind the art, with the guide to their exhibitions.
