Australia’s favourite golf publication, Golf Australia, collected three awards from four categories at the prestigious Australian Golf Media Awards held during the Emirates Australian Open.
Nearly 200 entries for the 10 categories covering all print and broadcast media were received in the 17th year of the awards run in conjunction with the Australian Golf Writers Association (AGWA) dinner.
Golf Australia contributing writer, US-based Australian journalist Ben Everill, won Best Feature Story for his touching story with Jarrod Lyle, who earlier this year learned he had suffered a leukemia relapse.
Best International Story went to Golf Australia contributing writer Matt Cleary for his personal account of the joys of playing golf in Ireland.
Golf Australia editor Brendan James collected the award for Best Feature in a Newspaper or Magazine on Women’s Professional Golf for his article on Lindsey Wright’s return to the winner’s circle after battling depression. It was his seventh gong, and 17th for the magazine, in the awards.
The awards night also recognised the acheivements of AGWA secretary/treasurer George Begg, who was betowed with life membership of the association.
